This 1960s design is re-upholstered in an updated grey fabric, the neutral tone was chosen to compliment the elegant black of the hardwood frame. Comfortable angles and clean lines, the hardwood frame is designed to comfort and delight, influenced by the mid-20th Century Modernist movement in Central Europe.
The bentwood shape is infused with dynamism and movement, reflecting the origins of the technique and the optimism of the industrial revolution-- steam bent furniture was a technological innovation developed by the Thonet Brothers at the end of the 19th century.
In the Eastern Bloc, the dynamic forces of Modernism met the stark reality of post-war necessity, producing a simplification of form, boiled down to a haunting beauty. Those bold shapes are graced with nicks and scratches; layers of paint revealing the passage of time.
