exceptional winding table clock on a pink marble base and a female sculpture in calamine with paris machinery. It combines with mastery the calamine sculpture and the nobility of marble. On the inside of the machine is the stamp of the brand, the société clusienne d'appareils de précision et d'horlogerie, or s.c.a.p.h. The piece presents a highly theatrical composition, in which a female figure lies reclining on a pink marble base with white veins, which brings luminosity and contrast to the whole. The work, signed by a. Richin, represents a young woman dressed in a classically inspired tunic, whose folds and suspended gesture evoke the greco-roman tradition reinterpreted by the eclectic taste of the second empire.
the clock, organically integrated into the scene, is placed next to the figure as if emerging from a rococo decor, crowned by vegetal elements that refer to the ornamental repertoire of the late baroque. The machinery is delicately fitted into the sculptural body, which reinforces the fusion between functionality and decorative sculpture.
this piece is testimony to the refined french craftsmanship of the period, where the art of calamine and marble are combined to create objects that are not only utilitarian, but also charged with artistic expression and aesthetic sensibility. Perfectly preserved, this clock is ideal for collectors as well as for classic interiors looking for a piece with a strong scenographic and symbolic character.
about the société clusienne d'appareils de précision et d'horlogerie, or s.c.a.p.h.:
the société clusienne d'appareils de précision et d'horlogerie (s.c.a.p.h.) was a french watch manufacture based in cluses, a town in the haute-savoie region renowned for its tradition in watchmaking since the 18th century. Although not as well known as other watchmaking houses, s.c.a.p.h. Played a significant role in the production of precision movements and decorative timepieces during the 19th and 20th centuries.
s.c.a.p.h. Specialized in the manufacture of high quality watch movements, including 8-day mechanisms with anchor or cylinder escapement, and brocot fine regulation systems. These movements were used in a variety of table and mantel clocks, often incorporated in ornate designs that reflected the artistic styles of the time, such as art nouveau and louis xvi. The company also produced movements in metals such as brass and nickel silver, known for their durability and aesthetic finish.
s.c.a.p.h. Collaborated with renowned sculptors and designers to create timepieces that combined functionality and art. A notable example is the collaboration with the moreau brothers, louis auguste and hippolyte françois, artists known for their decorative sculptures. These collaborations resulted in table clocks featuring female figures and classical motifs, integrating sculpture and watchmaking into unique pieces.
today, s.c.a.p.h. Watches are appreciated by collectors and watchmaking enthusiasts for their build quality and aesthetic value, as this house represents an important part of french watchmaking history, standing out for its commitment to technical precision and artistic excellence.
