French White Metal Sculpture of Minerva, the Roman Goddess of Wisdom
Offered for sale is a French white metal (spelter) sculpture of Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, strategic warfare and crafts. Minerva is often associated with the Greek goddess Athena. It depicts Minerva seated, wearing a helmet and armor, and holding a shield. Similar statues were popular in the 19th century, often used as decorative mantelpiece items.
