Late 19th Century classic Thonet bentwood umbrella stand of beech and a great example of the innovative construction technique pioneered by Michael Thonet.
A central support crowned with a finial is turned and encircled in a bentwood ring with ribbon like legs that are elegantly designed to hold umbrellas and walking sticks. It is supported by a brass pan.
The lightweight design and durability gained popularity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries becoming a significant part of design history and the Art Nouveau style.
