This is a Truly Handsome Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Storage Jug. Circa Late 19th Century - Approx 1870s. Not Marked as Such but I am Sure that it would have an Approx 3 Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. It has No Maker mark but it was Most Likely Made in the Upstate New York Region. The Body has a Very Nice Slightly Tapered Top to Base Form. It has an Exceptionally Nice & Uniform Natural Sand Color Salt Glaze Exterior. The Front of the Jug is Hand Decorated with a Bold Blue Color Stylized Decoration. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of Jugs were Commonly Used to Store Liquids such as Ciders, Vinegar, Ales, Liquors & Spirits, Spring Water Etc.
It is in Very Nice Overall Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. It has 1 Chip at the Top Front Spout Rim. It Also has a Larger Chip at The Left Side Base Rim Perimeter. These Can be Seen in Some of my Photographs. No Other Issues - No Cracks - No Repairs. The Bottom - Lower Base Perimeter has a Surface Glaze Imperfections but These Would have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common. It is in Strong - Sound and Perfectly Usable if so Desired.
It Measures Overall Approx. 15 Tall x 11 3/8 Inches Long - Wide.
