Although printed in (2005 - 2015) this piece is inspired by the clean lines, dynamic geometry, and vintage color palette that define mid-20th-century design.

This artwork channels the essence of post-war modernism with a composition that is both playful and structured. The artist quietly introduces a subtle use of the Verre Églomisé technique that is found exclusively in the painted asterisk symbols, (classic atomic motifs), that give the illusion that they hover over two circular cut-outs. One is situated in the upper left portion of the artwork. The other is which an asterisk but this time it has a black background found diagonally opposite on the lower left. At first glance, it appears that the minimalist black wood framed artwork is nestled by an off-white soft mat. But upon closer inspection, it's evident that the print sits on the top of the creamy white background and is not under mat at all. Another layer of stark white paper is placed behind the print so that ultimately it is clear that the circular cut outs delineate the cream background from the white background that sits between the print and teh cream background, The cumulative effect is that a subtle and barely noticeable shadow is cast behind the black symbols due to the small space between the painted reverse side of the glass and the creamy stark white background. The message and the narrative behind the starred symbols and the detailed and intensive effort given to them, remains as a mystery to us. We are left on our own to decipher the hidden message. After all, this colorful print can stand alone for its decorative values, Yet, the discovery of the layers of barely noticed and seemingly unnecessary artistic techniques makes the meaning of their existence even more compelling. Perhaps Ramon is making a statement on "the lengths people will go to keep their secrets quiet" and that "There is more to the matter than meets the eye" or maybe he is pointing out that "The devil is in the details". Perhaps an apt title since the one given by Ramon is unknown to us might be.

My takeaway is that no matter what is observed on the surface the book can't be judged by it's cover unless we take time to read between the layers
