Meissen porcelain from Germany was the first European porcelain. Bearing the crossed swords of the Meissen makers, this is a set of 8 deep dinner plates.
The Meissen blue onion pattern has been a very popular pattern for almost three hundred years. It is still being painted by hand at the Meissen factory in Germany. Although the pieces in a set look the same, they are each a little different because they are hand painted by different artists. This is also true because five of the plates are from the Meissen factory and three are from the Hutschenreuther factory.

No chips, no cracks or hairlines. There appear to be two different manufacturers and brown age marks appear on the backside only of the three that were produced by Hutschenreuther. The Meissen mark is on five plates. Some Meissen pieces may have blue crossed sword marks with horizontal white strokes on the blades or vertical strokes next to the blades. These are the quality marks the Meissen porcelain factory used to mark and distinguish low-quality pieces. Please view photos carefully. less
