The Classic American Greige … Read more This Really is a Great Looking Authentic Antique American Stoneware Liquid Storage Jug. Circa Approx 1870s. The Classic American Greige Color Salt Glaze Exterior is Nicely Textured. The Front of the Jug is Beautifully Hand Decorated with a Large Size and Exceptionally Nice Blue Stylized Flower Sprig Design. It is Embossed with a "2" Denoting its Two Gallon Storage Capacity. NOTE That it is Embossed with Only a Fragment of the Makers Name that I Could Not Identify. Most Likely a New York Maker. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made For Everyday - Utilitarian Use. Jugs were Commonly Used to Store Liquids such as Ciders, Vinegar, Ales, Liquors & Spirits, Spring Water, Oils, Molasses, Etc. It is in Exceptionally Nice All Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. In addition it has a Uniform Allover Greige Color to the Salt Glaze Exterior. No Damage - No Cracks - No Repairs.
