A petite 3 drawer French commode with marquetry crafted from beautifully figured and contrasting wood veneers. The top is covered with a dramatic Venetian marble slab and the commode's elegance is further enhanced by gilded bronze mounts. The locks work and the original key is included. Dates circa 1830.

Working locks... We had the locks checked by a locksmith because somehow the key was locked in the top drawer, and the bottom drawer was open in the locked position so we couldn't shut it. He confirmed that these were the original antique double-turn locks, which means you have to turn them twice to open or to close. I would not lock it, because these old locks can be tricky, but they worked beautifully for him. Right now, we have the key taped in the top drawer, but we will put it in an envelope and tape it to the back of the cabinet for shipping. less
