This magnificent and rare pair of monumental 19th-century French bisque porcelain figurines was crafted by the prestigious Vion & Baury manufactory in Paris, circa 1870. Exceptional in both craftsmanship and scale, these finely modelled figures stand an impressive 57 cm and 59 cm tall, making them true statement pieces for any grand interior or refined collection.
Executed in superb matte bisque porcelain and delicately hand-painted in naturalistic pastel tones, the figures depict a romantic pastoral scene. The barefoot shepherd boy, dressed in a soft blue waistcoat and striped breeches, tenderly cradles a kid goat while interacting with two goats at his feet. The shepherdess, adorned in flowing garments of pink, lilac, and fresh green, carries an apron of flowers and stands beside a lamb gazing adoringly upward.
The lifelike modelling, graceful postures, and gentle expressions reflect the extraordinary artistry of Vion & Baury, renowned for their mastery of the Rococo revival style. Both figures rest on richly decorated Rococo-style bases with ornate scrollwork, gilding, and delicate floral motifs, enhancing their romantic and sophisticated aesthetic.
with their commanding size and exquisite attention to detail, these rare bisque porcelain sculptures are ideal as centrepieces for period salons, luxury interiors, or curated decorative arts collections. Their presence transforms any space, offering a captivating blend of elegance, charm, and historical importance.
Both figurines are in very good antique condition with crisp modelling and vibrant colours. Minor losses to flowers and wheat, small stabilised cracks to bases, and typical firing lines present, but overall beautifully preserved. This piece has an attribution mark,
