LARGE Approx 1 … Read more This is a Great Looking and Quite Unusual Original Antique American Stoneware Food Storage Jar with Lid. LARGE Approx 1 Gallon Storage Size. The Lower Back - Base Perimeter is Embossed With a Patent Date of 1896. The Front Advertises ACKERS - FINLEY ACKER & CO. The Finley Acker Company was a Upscale Grocery Retailer that Was in Business From Approx 1881 to 1920. They had 3 Locations in Philadelphia and 1 Location in Atlantic City. It has a Lathe Turned Black Painted Wood Handle Mounted on a Heavy Gauge Wire "Bail" - Swing Carry Handle. The Exterior is Nicely Decorated with 2 Blue and 2 White Bands - Stripes. Back in the Day Stoneware Utilitarian Items Such as These Were on Loan to Customers from their Local Farms - Markets - Grocery Stores, Etc. They were Intended to be Reused - Refilled. They were Typically Used for Dairy Products - Fruits - Preserves - Pickles Etc. It is in Excellent Condition - Displays Nicely. It has Some Light Age and Use Related Wear - Glaze Crazing - Stains - Etc. No Damage.

The Jar itself Measures Approx 8 1/2 Inches Tall x 8 1/2 inches Long - Wide.
It Measures 11 3/4 inches Tall Including Swing Carry Handle in the Upright Position.
