A sleek and stunning French Art Deco chandelier designed by renowned French glass master Marius-Ernest Sabino, showcasing six large frosted geometric art glass panels with intricate skyscraper motif. Each shade is signed SABINO - 5139 - FRANCE and features a geometric, streamlined design. The glass panels gracefully rest in the original fer forge/ hand hammered iron armature signed G. Ver, which looks like polished nickeled bronze, and features intricate scrollwork and a martele texture in excellent vintage condition. Together, they form a stunning starburst or floral blossom shape.
The frosted glass panels of the chandelier embody the sleek and linear appearance typical of Art Deco design, emphasizing symmetry and sharp angles. The frosted art glass also scatters and diffuses the light, creating a warm, ambient glow.
This combination of geometric precision and high-quality craftsmanship exemplifies the timeless allure of the Art Deco movement while also blending functionality with artistry, another key principle of Art Deco design.

DOB : Acireale 1878 - 1961 Paris
Marius-Ernest Sabino was born in Sicily in 1878; he moved to Paris with his family as a child.
Sabino studied at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs, where he developed a fascination with the impact of electricity on glassmaking. After World War I, Sabino established his own workshop in 1913, initially focusing on electric lighting designs. By 1920, he expanded his repertoire to include decorative and everyday objects crafted from pressed glass. His innovative techniques allowed him to create translucent molded glass with intricate relief designs, making glass the centerpiece of his creations rather than a secondary element.
Sabino pioneered techniques in glassmaking. This innovation allowed him to create pieces that played with light in captivating ways, enhancing the luxurious and modern feel central to Art Deco design. His use of frosted and molded glass with intricate geometric patterns epitomized the movement's emphasis on streamlined forms and elegant craftsmanship.
Sabino's clientele included prestigious figures and organizations, such as the Shah of Persia and the shipping company behind the luxury cruise liner Normandie. His work gained international acclaim, and he participated in major exhibitions, including the 1923 Triennale in Milan, the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels in Paris, and the 1937 Paris World's Fair. Sabino's chandeliers and decorative objects often featured monumental designs that complemented contemporary architecture.
After Sabino's death in 1961, his workshop continued operations until 1975.
Art Deco was heavily influenced by Cubism's geometric abstraction, and Sabino's designs reflected this through bold shapes and stylized patterns. Just like the fixture available here, his lighting fixtures and decorative objects often featured symmetrical motifs, such as starbursts or floral designs, which were quintessentially Art Deco. These geometric elements harmonized with the movement's architectural innovations, such as skyscrapers, further embedding his work into the era's visual language. Sabino's contributions to Art Deco design remain celebrated for their artistic innovation and technical mastery.
