This whimsical boho chic beauty will serve perfectly as a decorative storage accent on a tabletop, etagère or tucked onto a shelf in a built-in book or display case. It is a two-piece basket that was intricately handwoven from rattan in an over and under weave. Shaped and bent bamboo wood was used to fashion the feathers which provide a warm visual and textural charm in hues of henna brown, tan and tawny, while the naturally aged lacquered rattan has mellowed into a tawny hue. The beak was hand carved from bamboo and was stained in a dusky amber tint; button eyes are transparent with a black center. This beauty measures as follows:

In excellent condition with age-appropriate wear. Though the label is long gone, this rattan and bamboo beauty was handcrafted by Shanghai Handicrafts about the time President Nixon opened trade between China and the United States, sometime in the early to mid 1970s. For a collector of playful and charming figural handwoven baskets, this cutie should be a must have or the perfect gift for someone who is.
