Afra and Tobia Scarpa were two Italian designers known for their work in the field of architecture and industrial design. Afra Bianchin Scarpa (1937–2011) and Tobia Scarpa (born 1935) worked together as a couple both in life and professionally, forming one of the most prolific and influential duos in the Italian design scene of the 20th century.
Afra and Tobia Scarpa both graduated in architecture from the Iuav University of Venice, where they studied with important architects such as Carlo Scarpa (Tobia's brother) and Giuseppe Samonà. After their studies, they began working together at the studio of the Italian architect and designer Carlo Scarpa, where they had the opportunity to develop their unique and sophisticated style.
Their collaboration has resulted in the creation of numerous iconic projects in furniture and interior design, often characterized by timeless elegance and meticulous attention to detail. Their works have been produced by world-famous brands such as B&B Italia, Cassina and Flos.
Afra and Tobia Scarpa have received numerous awards and recognitions throughout their careers, further cementing their status as pioneers in the field of contemporary design. Their legacy continues to influence generations of designers and design enthusiasts around the world.
Stildomus was an Italian furniture company that played a significant role in the design scene of the 60s and 70s. Founded by Ettore and Norberto Pellagatta, Stildomus has stood out for its ability to combine traditional craftsmanship with innovative design, creating pieces that have become iconic in the world of modern design.
The company collaborated with some of the most influential designers of the time, including Afra and Tobia Scarpa. The Scarpa brothers created a series of furniture for Stildomus that combined elegance and functionality, using high-quality materials such as solid wood and aluminium, and introducing distinctive design elements that are still highly sought after today.
Stildomus has mainly focused on home furniture, such as tables, chairs, and bar furniture, characterized by a sober but refined aesthetic, and by great attention to detail and the quality of the materials. The pieces produced by the company have become symbols of 1970s Italian design, and are highly prized by vintage furniture collectors.
Despite the closure of the company, Stildomus products continue to be in high demand on the antique and vintage design market, thanks to their construction quality and historical value.
