This is an Outstanding Example of a Authentic Antique American Stoneware Liquid Storage Jug. Circa Approx Mid 19th Century. Large Size Measuring 16 inches Tall. The Classic Salt Glaze Exterior is Done in a Wonderfully Uniform Sand Color. The Front of the Jug Displays and Contrasts Beautifully with a Artfully Hand Decorated and Well Executed Deep Cobalt Blue Stylized Flower Sprig Design. It is Embossed with a "3" Denoting its Two Gallon Storage Capacity. It is Also Embossed Signed by the Well Documented Massachusetts Maker - A. B. WHEELER & COMPANY in BOSTON MASSACHUSETTS. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made For Everyday - Utilitarian Use. Jugs were Commonly Used to Store Liquids such as Ciders, Vinegar, Ales, Liquors & Spirits, Spring Water, Oils, Molasses, Etc. It is in Excellent All Original Condition - Displays Beautifully. No Cracks - No Chips - No Repairs. It has a Few Minor Kiln Flaws - Glaze Imperfection at the Lower Base Perimeter - a Small Rust Color Spot to the Left Side and a Couple Surface Glaze Lines at the Front Base Area All of Which Occurred in the Making - Firing Process. These are Quite Common as these Types of Stoneware Items were Produced in Batches with Multiple Other Pieces at at The Same Time in a Large Size Kilns.
