The aneroid barometer (or holosteric barometer) was developed by the Frenchman Lucien Vidie who filed a patent for it in 1844 (in collaboration with Antoine Redier, inventor of the alarm clock). The walls of a vacuum capsule, called “Vidie capsule” are held apart by a spring. Atmospheric pressure presses more or less on the aneroid case (capsule) and thus makes the hand turn on the dial, thanks to a precision mechanism. The French movements are in good working order. The case is in good condition with only very minor signs of wear. See less
