This is a luminous pair of absolutely gorgeous French Louis XVI porter or canopy chairs. these chairs were originally designed … Read more This is a luminous pair of absolutely gorgeous French Louis XVI porter or canopy chairs. these chairs were originally designed to protect "porters" who would check calling cards for party attendees and make sure they were invited. The chairs were usually placed outside the front door of the home and provided protection for wind and protection. They are now usually seen at fine hotels and restaurants and Bergdorf Goodman's restaurant as installed by famous decorator and designer Kelly Wearstler. These chairs are also similar to "sedan" chairs that were carried by servants of court officials in ancient Rome. They are in good condition and probably silk though I can't say for certain. The flaws are shown and limited to very minor issues as shown. They date to the 1960s.
