Each corbel is mounted on an elegant black wood plinth. Each item displays two characters, an old bearded man and an assistant following him. The bearded man on the left may be a Taoist monk while the man on the right corbel appears to be a scholar. Above each character is a nicely carved tree, possibly a palm tree and a peony tree. The attention to detail is highlighted by the remnants of the original paint. This exquisite pair of Qing dynasty Chinese hand-carved wood temple corbels will be an excellent decorative item in any home, especially in a living room where it would no doubt be a tremendous conversation starter.
