This Really is a Great Looking - Quite Rare & Unusual Antique Early American Blue Decorated Stoneware Storage Jar - … Read more This Really is a Great Looking - Quite Rare & Unusual Antique Early American Blue Decorated Stoneware Storage Jar - Crock. Circa Mid 19th Century. It is Completely Hand Made. It is Rendered in a Approx 1 Gallon Storage Capacity Size. NOTE That is it has Cobalt - Navy Blue Hand Decorated Features on 2 Sides - Front and Back!. The Front has a Large Design - Possibly a Fern. The Back is Decorated with a Stylized Design Possibly Initials ? Size Capacity ? or Some Other Reference ?. The Interior Glaze is Done in a Coffee Brown Color. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most Of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made For Everyday - Utilitarian Use. Typically They were Used in to Store Many Types of Food & Liquids. It has No Maker Marks but I did Purchase it on one of my Recent Picking Adventures in the Gettysburg Pennsylvania Area. It is in Very Nice All Original Condition - Displays Beautifully. It has a Couple Very Small Chips at the Top Rim Perimeter Area. No Cracks- No Repairs. The Salt Glazed Exterior has an Assortment of Very Interesting Color Variations and Stains Giving it a Wonderful Authentic Old Look. Most of these Would Have Occurred as a Result Many Years of Use - Some Occurred in The Making - Kiln Firing Process. It is in Strong - Sound and Perfectly Usable.
