About the Poster: Poster art is one of Switzerland's major contributions to decorative arts.
For more than a century, Swiss graphic designers have given a strong personality to their art by synthesizing very different influences and cultures. The colours and layout of this poster clearly indicate the evolution from Art Nouveau and Art Deco into a more modern approach to graphic design: gone are the Art Nouveau flourishes and the straight lines of Art Deco: this joyous examination the Swiss landscape and its inhabitants is a masterpiece of its time and location.
About the Artist: Hans Thoni studied at the Zürich School of Applied Arts (known as the Kunstgewerbeschule) and trained for four years in Paris before settling in Berne, Switzerland. He was an illustrator, poster designer and an exhibition designer. He was also a founding member of the VSG (Verband Schweizer Grafiker).
Poster is in lovely condition with some tape on the reverse (please see photos). A perfect gift for a traveller or anyone who loves vintage poster art!
