Antique frame, richly detailed, traditional European craftsmanship. Crafted from wood and finished in hand-applied gold leaf, this 19th-century frame features intricate gesso molding with raised floral and swirling spiral motifs throughout. The dimensional relief work and aged patina lends a sense of history and provenance. Areas of gold gilt has oxidized into a green verdigris and the red base of antique gilding shows through in others. Likely Venetian or Florentine Baroque period or early French École de Beaux-Arts.
