Excellent Pre-Owned Condition.
This Japanese double gourd shaped earthenware beauty is a tokkuri, a vessel created to hold sake. In its new life it serves stylishly as a drip-glaze bud vase or as a decorative vessel grouped together with other “like-minded” vessels on a display shelf, fireplace mantel or tabletop. Nicely glazed, its soft soothing green blue celadon hue covers most of the vessel except for the top where a pale beige and sage green combo drip glaze “pours down and out” from its opening. It measures 8½” x 4½” x 4½” H/W/D; weight 1 lb. 2 oz. In excellent condition with minimal, if any wear. There is a makers signature on the underside of the tokukuri in Japanese. I believe the signature is tied to a specific brewer that commissioned this type of tokukuri in the mid 20th-century to early 1970s for a particular sake they made. I believe this brewer to be the Ota Saka Brewery Company in Kusatsu Shiga, Japan. Photos were taken in the round to show all sides and any varying shades and nuances of color and texture.
