18th Century Hand-Made Oak Stave Butter Churn was lovingly crafted by the town's barrel cooper in the same general manner … Read more 18th Century Hand-Made Oak Stave Butter Churn was lovingly crafted by the town's barrel cooper in the same general manner which he produced barrels for food and wine storage. Oak staves were steamed and bowed, then held in place by hand-welded iron straps. The churn was created with a slotted paddle connected to a hand-crank, also fashioned from iron and oak, and a lid was supplied with turned handle for easy access. Back before the days of mega marts and grocery stores, such devices kept a family or two in fresh butter for weeks at a time!
