This frame dates from the mid- to late-1800s Based on the clothing styles of the portrait subject, our best guess would be approximately 1860 - 1870. The beautiful, and ornate frame is a testament to the fact that photographs were an expensive and prized possession in the late 19th Century. This piece came from an estate in central Virginia. Sadly, we have no clue as to the identity of the subject. The frame is in remarkable condition, which also speaks to the fact that it was a treasured possession.
The frame measures 24.5 inches wide by 28 inches tall. It is a full 3 inches in depth.
