The series of 24 plates depicts the trials and tribulations of an attractive widow of the Gilded Age, are designed by Charles Dana Gibson (1867-1944). Gibson was a talented and successful commercial artist in the USA, with his work covering the decades of 1890-1920. The pen and ink sketches were titled "The Widow and Her Friends", first published in Life Magazine and the artists own book in 1901. The depicted scenes are titled expressing Gibson's dry wit. The "Gibson Girl" became synonymous with the ideal modern woman, tall, elegant, and independent. This plate titled"They Go Fishing". The copyright is 1900. See less
