An early 19th century Chinese Export Canton Porcelain Reticulated Basket and Underplate, probably dating from 1820-30. These are often called Chestnut or Fruit Baskets--they were reticulated to allow air to flow in and around the contents. This one-- in typical blue and white design characteristic of Canton and later copied by the English with what became known as Blue Willow--has deep cobalt blue color and the same design in the base of the bowl that matches the plate. Both are in excellent condition with no damage. There is a slight brown scuff on the top rim of the bowl, as pictured, but it is minor. A rare survivor and a beautiful centerpiece on a table or sideboard.
The basket measures: 9 3/4 x 8 1/2 x 4
The plate measures: 10 x 8 1/2 x 4
