Set of 4 – 1799–1800 Samuel Howitt Hand-Colored Sporting Engravings – Original Antique Prints
This rare complete set of four original hand-colored aquatints by acclaimed British artist Samuel Howitt (1756–1822) captures the essence of 18th-century sporting and hunting traditions. Published between 1799 and 1800, these museum-worthy engravings depict scenes of snipe shooting, pheasant hawking, partridge hawking, and duck hawking with remarkable detail and artistry. Very much in line with a Ralph Lauren Country Manor aesthetic.
Each print was expertly produced using intaglio engraving and aquatint techniques on fine 18th-century handmade paper, evident by the raised plate marks and rich ink texture still visible today. The original hand-applied coloring enhances the depth and realism of these sporting scenes, making them ideal for collectors of antique British prints, equestrian art, or traditional country decor.
