The French wooden … Read more These are a gorgeous pair of wooden hand-carved Candle Holders with hand-painted Art Nouveau style paper shades. The French wooden taper candle holders have carved details and are finished in a dark Royal blue original paint. We have added felt to the bottoms. But it’s the artisan painted paper shades that are so hard to find. They easily get destroyed over the decades and these two have some aging. The one with the blue ribbon and bow above a basket of flowers has a nick/crack in the paper of less than an inch. It’s in very good condition for its age. The peacock has tape on the backside to add support to some cracking of the shade. Additionally, it’s unfortunate that someone has painted over the original green-tone background with a flat turquoise solid color. It does help stabilize the paper shade, so it might have been necessary, but is not original. The peacock image is original work and the image is lovely.
