It is Not … Read more This is a Great Looking and Unusual Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Spirits Jug. Circa Approx 1870s. It is Not Marked but Based on its Small Size it has an Approx. 1/2 Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. The Front is Embossed with the Well Documented Makers Name - Reads "SIPE, NICHOLS & CO. WILLIAMSPORT" ( Pennsylvania ). It has a Interesting Age and Use Related Dark Salt Glaze Exterior with Navy Blue Under Glaze Highlights to Accentuate The Lettering. Note Also the Blue Patch at the Front of the Spout. These Smaller Size Jugs were Typically Intended to be Used for Liquors - Spirits & Moonshine!. It is in Very Good All Original Condition - Strong and Sound - Displays Nicely. Some Minor Age and Use Related Surface Glaze Wear. No Cracks - No Chips - No Repairs. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most Of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made For Everyday - Utilitarian Use. They were Individually Hand Made on a Potters Wheel and Decorated Features Varied Making Each of Them One of a Kind.
