The quality of the porcelain and the appeal of the decoration was the craze of the Rocco Period in Europe, copied by popular porcelain manufacturers such as Meissen in Germany, Chantilly in France and Chelsea in England. The delicate color palette of Kakiemon came from China's Wucai porcelains. The five colors are red, green, yellow, blue and white. Although the popularity slowed down, Kakiemon porcelains continue to be produced in kilns in Arita, on the island of Kyushu.

Kakiemon porcelain is highly admired by its pure white, highly translucent quality and the attractive painting. This modified double gourd shape vase, a piece of Japanese studio ceramic was made in the 1930s. Branches of flowers and leaves, resembling Indian Mallow are painted in the delicate Kakiemon palette enamel, red in the blossoms, and yellow and green in the leaves.
