Designed for elegance and comfort, Louis XVI furnishings represented a drastic departure from the heavier, opulent offerings of the Louis XV era.

The gilded frames are adorned with motifs inspired by nature, such as the crest of laurel branches bound by a flowered ribbon. Additional laurel leaves encircle the oval back, set between rings of beading and bead and reel. The armrests are slightly recessed from the edge of the chair and terminate in acanthus hand rests above the S-scrolled arm stumps graced with chandelle fluting. A square joinery connects the seat rails to the baluster legs, with the two front connectors having a floret carving. The golden frames have been paired with silk blue upholstery (on the backs, the seats, and the two manchettes) that is embellished with golden palmettes inside intertwined flowering vines and teal gimp.
