This Really is a Great Looking and Very Unusual Antique American Blue Decorated Stoneware Liquid Storage Jug. LARGE 5 GALLON … Read more This Really is a Great Looking and Very Unusual Antique American Blue Decorated Stoneware Liquid Storage Jug. LARGE 5 GALLON SIZE - Measuring Approx 18 1/2 inches Tall x 13 1/4 inches Wide - Long. Circa Late 19th Century. It has an Exceptionally Nice Sand Color Salt Glaze Exterior with a Unusual 2 Color Design - The Top Section Being Decorated in a Goldenrod Color. It has No Maker Mark but Based on my Experience the Blue Hand Decorated "Stinger" Design indicates that it Could be Midwestern in Origin. There is No Mark that Indicates its 5 Gallon Size but I am Confident of that to be Accurate. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. Jugs such as these were used to store a variety liquids such as Ciders - Vinegar - Liquors - Spirits Etc. These Types of American Stoneware Items we Completely Hand Made out of Indigenous Clay on a Potters Wheel from Start to Finish and Therefore No 2 are Absolutely Identical. It is in Exceptionally Nice All Original Condition - Displays Beautifully. No Cracks - No Damage - No Repairs. There is a Minor Outer Perimeter Chip at the Base but on Close Examination Since it is Glazed Over it Would Have Occurred Before it was Placed in the Kiln and Fired.
It Measures Overall Approx. 18 1/2 inches Tall x 13 inches Long - Wide.
