The opaline or milk glass snuff bottle has an overlay of brown glass. It has a flattened globular form tapering to a raised flat oval foot. The top has a slightly concave form with a round opening. There is a four character mark of Qianlong. It is matched with a brown tiger eye cap encased in copper with a copper spoon.
This bottle carries auspicious or good luck meaning, On one side in brown is a four character Qianlong mark and a three legged toad throwing out from its mouth a whole chair of gold coins. On the other side are three bats playing with a chain of golden coins. The three legged toad with golden coins symbolize wealth. The toad is the pet of the Daoist Immortal Liu Hai. It has a bad habit of running off. Liu Hai has to think of devices to regain its attention by jingling gold coins, The toad likes the pretty sounds made by the coins and would come jumping back, The bats and gold coins symbolize good luck and wealth. BATS represent good luck. There is a four character auspicious saying 福在眼前 which means luck in front of your eyes.
The four character Qianlong mark is spurious. The bottle was made after the 1970's.
