19th Century Blue and White Chinese Export Platter
This is a remarkable example of 19th century Chinese export porcelain. The platter features traditional motifs of wisemen, a dragon and a tiger.
In late 19th-century China, wisemen, dragons, and tigers symbolized wisdom, power, and protection, deeply rooted in Chinese tradition. The dragon represented imperial authority and dynamic energy, while the tiger embodied courage and balance, often paired with the dragon to signify harmony between cosmic forces. Together with wisemen, these symbols reflected an ideal of holistic strength and equilibrium during a time of societal and political upheaval.
A lovely collectors item, perfect for display on a sideboard or in a china cabinet.
