additional information:
this four-piece secessionist nesting table is based on a design by prof. Josef hoffmann from 1905 and was first published in 1906 in the product catalog of the renowned bentwood furniture company jacob & josef kohn.
particularly striking evidence of the international acclaim this model received can be found in the vestibule of the casa pladellorens on passeig de gràcia in barcelona, where the nesting table was part of a prestigious modernist interior around 1910. Its use in one of barcelona’s most distinguished residences illustrates that kohn’s furniture was appreciated far beyond the borders of the austro-hungarian empire and was among the furnishings of the most exclusive interiors of its time.
although there is a jacob & josef kohn company plaque on the underside of the smallest table, based on its construction details and workmanship, we believe that this particular piece is a later reproduction, likely made in vienna around 1980. In our opinion, the attached plaque was probably added by a previous owner. This piece is designed in the style of the selected designer and/or manufacturer
