Unusual antique Stevengraph of "Ye Peeping Tom of Coventry".
Peeping Tom was a tailor who is said to have lived in the city during the 11th century when it was just a settlement governed by the Earl of Mercia, Leofric III, and his wife, Lady Godiva. Legend has it that the Countess rode naked through Coventry in protest at her husband's taxes.
Everyone was ordered to avert their eyes and not look upon the golden-haired woman, but one man couldn't resist and took a peek.
His name became Peeping Tom.
