Denbac's … Read more A French stoneware vase from La Société Denert et Balichon, known as Denbac Pottery of Vierzon, dating circa 1930s. Denbac's sophisticated grès flammés (flamed sandstone) art pottery glazes are unique to every piece and this vessel is decorated with a golden brown ochre matte glaze under complimentary drip glaze in several colors of tan and green. The vase features trails and clusters of micro-crystalline accents, giving the vessel's surface depth and shimmer. Denbac art pottery is generally associated with Art Nouveau design; however, this example would be right at home in an Arts and Craft or Scandinavian Modern interior.

The vase is in very good condition bearing an impressed "Denbac" script and 80 marks underfoot, measuring 9 in. Height. Denbac is the brand name for the Denert and Balichon Company of Vierzon in central France. The Denbac name is a contraction of the partners surnames, ceramist René Denert and manager René-Louis Balichon. See less
