Blue willow is the single most popular chinoiserie design in history. The design itself is roughly 200 years old. It defined the concept of flow blue glazes, creating the most vibrantly indigo colors - even into modern times. Most surviving pieces made in Britain and the US were made from 1905 on, though it's impossible to tell specific ages as many if not most manufacturers didn't mark their pieces.
With this set I tried very hard to keep to the same four or so manufacturers, as much as humanly possible. That created a commonality of design and also ensured safe glazes. Because of it's popularity finding blue willow is not uncommon - finding it crack, chip and craze free most certainly is. But each and every piece of this set is completely crack, chip and craze - most importantly craze- free. The absolute worst you will find is the cone marks from where they were perched in the kiln. Put them on a wall, on a table, in a display case, wherever you want. Show them off with aplomb, eat spaghetti off them with influential guests. Very little blue willow has survived to modern times in usable shape, but these most certainly have. There are an array of manufacturers both marked and unmarked- as well as countries from USA, England and Japan. All pieces are consistent in design, color consistency and size within 1/4" or less and in excellent condition. I have other smaller sets listed seperately in my chairish store.
There are twelve dinner plates, twelve soup/ cereal bowls, twelve bread and butter plates, eight dessert bowls, two smaĺl oval bowls - excellent for butter, four serving bowls, six tea and coffee mugs, eight proper British high tea cups and fourteen saucers. I believe in spares- particularly in mugs and cups. Oh, don't forget the giant platter- i know i didn't!

This is simply a mark of firing and is not considered a flaw. less
