This striking unique centerpiece bowl seamlessly blends contemporary art glass with antique porcelain to create a captivating abstract homage to Sandro Botticelli’s Birth of Venus. The piece is a bold reinterpretation, merging classical imagery with modern designs.
Handcrafted by skilled glass artisans in Krosno, Poland, the bowl measures over 16 inches in length and 9 inches in width. Its iridescent beige glass shimmers with subtle depth, adorned with a delicate, webbed brown pattern that adds texture and dimension.
One edge of the bowl is elegantly folded over, while the borders are tipped with pointed clear glass, forming a stylized interpretation of a conch shell — an artistic nod to Venus’ legendary emergence from the sea.
At the heart of the piece rests an antique German gilt gold porcelain figurine of the goddess of love, Venus. This delicate sculpture captures the goddess in the moments after she has just been born fully-grown from sea foam.
After emerging from the sea, Venus sits nude upon a bed of coral, at the heart of a giant conch shell. The coral base has hollowed-out spaces where fresh flowers can be placed. These spaces are carefully integrated into the design for it to serve as a "flower frog."
The delicate hunch of her back flows seamlessly into the curve of her legs, as if she is caught in the quiet moment of transition from the depths of the ocean to the world above. Her neck is held with serene elegance, gently tilted in a meditative pose, as though she is just awakening from the sea's embrace, taking in her new surroundings.
In her left hand, she extends a fish to a penguin that has followed her from among the swaying seaplants.
The juxtaposition of traditional elements, like the antique porcelain figurine, with the bold, contemporary glass design, makes this piece a unique and extraordinary work of art. Its ability to harmonize with both modern and classical interior settings makes it a versatile addition to any space, whether used alone or adorned with flowers.
