This is the largest standing Saint Bernard (Model 816) produced by the legendary Mortens Studio of Chicago. Standing a full 6 1/2" tall x 8" long x 3" wide and weighing a substantial 2 lbs 6 oz, this is a heavy, studio-scale casting designed by Oscar Mortens himself. It is listed as model #778 on page 15 of the "Royal Designs Lifelike Miniature Models" Chicago Studio Catalog c.1930's.

To find a Mortens piece of this magnitude in pristine condition is nearly impossible. While most large composition pieces from this era suffer from heavy flaking or deep structural cracks, this example remains beautifully preserved, showcasing the soulful expression and powerful anatomy for which Mortens was famous. The rich tawny and cream glaze retains its original high-gloss luster, making it a museum-quality addition to any library, den, or canine collection.
