Rare Antique Southwestern Pine Taos Territorial Chairs, A Pair, Circa Late 19th Century. Constructed from pine with the majority of the assembly done with wood pegs. Beautifully worn with a rich surface patina, the chairs retain very small traces of an early green paint. Simple in their design, the tapered spindles set within the backrest are associated with the Taos region. Each chair incorporates square-cut legs (with the back legs continuing to the top of the chair forming the sides of the backrest) that lead to four dowel stretchers. The majority of the nails used in construction are present on the seat surface. Unbranded.
*Offered as a pair.
CONDITION: Great antique condition with wear appropriate for age and use. Light movement between the joints. Areas of natural surface abrasion and finish variation. The surface of each seat and the stretchers show the most wear, as these areas had the most interaction in their use. One crack in a side stretcher (final image) does not affect the stability.
SPECS: 34" Total Height | 17 1/4" Seat Back Height | 17" Seat Height | 15" Seat Width | 13 1/2" Seat Depth | 17 3/4" Chair Depth
