Lovely and large (16" x 13") ironstone transferware platter in the English Aesthetic Movement / Arts & Crafts style. Light brown geometric accents combine with stylized green and yellow floral and landscape motifs to create a intriguing and handsome design. Maker's mark en verso of Pountney & Co. Ltd., as shown. Founded the mid-1800s, Pountney continued a centuries-old tradition of Bristol Pottery works. We believe this piece, in the "Summertime " pattern, dates to the 1880s.
Very good antique condition; vibrant colors and no cracks. Overall crazing and discoloration befitting its age (over 140 years) and 1 glaze chip at the 1 o'clock position on the rim as shown in the primary photo.
