Fabulously elegant and whimsical in shape, this mid 20th-century (1950s) petite hexagonal trinket box, with simple swivel brass latch, will liven up any dresser or vanity top with panache! Handcrafted in Japan, the silk brocade, called Nishijin ori in Japanese, is woven silk produced in the northwestern part of Kyoto. This beauty measures 5¼” x 6¾” x 6¾” H/W/D; interior 2¼” x 4½” x 4½” H/W/D; weight 11 oz. In excellent condition with minimal age-appropriate wear. There is a one small “boo boo” on the interior bottom, much like a small indentation (see photo 7) which does not affect its beauty, structural integrity or utility. Silk brocade background is a cool silvery blue dotted with hues of sage, pale butter, soft teal and pale mandarin orange with a floating chrysanthemum and lotus flower motif. Maker is unknown. Perfectly sized for safekeeping your small treasures, if you are a collector of chinoiserie-type trinket boxes, or the ideal gift for someone who is!
