This antique candy dish from Griffen, Smith & Hill is a beautiful addition to any collection. The company was in operation from 1867 to 1892 and began making majolica in 1879. This dish was made in the form of a Begonia leaf with a deeply textured surface and ruffled edges. The piece features a dark green center that bleeds in to a mauve band which transitions into brown. The back of the dish is stamped with Griffen, Smith & Hill’s monogram in stylized script.
This dish is in good antique condition. The piece shows appropriate signs of age consisting of crazing to the glaze, and one chip on outside underneath rim. There are production related anomalies as well as a chip that has been covered up. Please see pictures for accurate description.
This 19th century majolica candy dish displays beautifully and would be a great addition to your collection or as a stand alone decorative accent . It is a rare find for collectors of vintage pottery.
