This Really is a Great Example of a Authentic Antique American Primitive Blue Bird Decorated Stoneware Storage Jar - Crock. Circa Approx 1870s - Early 1880s. It is Embossed with a Number 6 Confirming its Unusual Incremental 6 Quart or 1 1/2 Gallon Storage Capacity. It is Not Signed by the Maker but I Believe that it was Mostly Produced in New York, Vermont or Massachusetts. It has a Classic American Salt Glazed Exterior with a Unusually Nice & Uniform Sandy Greige Color ( No Obvious Kiln Firing Glaze Flaws). It is Rendered in Classic American Stoneware Form - Shape with the Added Feature of Applied Handles - "Ears". The Front of the Jar is Artistically Hand Decorated with a Cobalt Blue Stylized Bird on a Branch Decoration. The Interior is Done in a Chocolate Brown Color. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of American Stoneware Items we Completely Hand Made out of Indigenous Clay on a Potters Wheel from Start to Finish and Therefore No 2 are Absolutely Identical. These were Typically Used to Store and Preserve Many Types of Liquids and Other Foods. It is in Very Nice, Strong & Sound and Usable Original Condition - Displays Beautifully. Imperfections Noted - There is a Series of Age and Use Acquired Stained Tight Hairline Cracks Cold Weather Freeze Cracks Often Occurring While Used in Root Cellars - Basements - Barns Etc.
