Extensive collection of M.A. Hadley dinnerware needs a new home! Our grandmother took great delight in building her collection during 50’s and 60's. This collectable folk art stoneware will bring charm to any kitchen.
The collection includes: (17) 10.5" Dinner Plates, (17) 9.5" Desert Plates, (8) solid green or white 8” plates with carved MA Hadley signature on back, (13) 5.4" Cereal Bowls, (19) 2.375” tall Coffee Cups, (16) 6” Saucers, (17) 6" Appetizer plates, (14) 4.5" Mugs, (2 pairs of) 4.5” tall Salt & Pepper Shakers, (16) 4.5" Plates /Bowls for nuts or butter, (7) 4.25” wide Soup Bowls with lids, (1) Candlestick Holder that is 5.375” tall and (2) that are 1.75” tall and 2.75” wide, (1) 1.25” “Snuffer” that fits inside of holder, (1) 8" tall Pitcher, (1) 16.5" x 11.5” x 1.625” deep Serving Platter with lid (lid with three chickens has a crack) (not shown in gallery, picture can be supplied), (1) 8" x 2.5" Serving Bowl, (2) Teapots (one is 4.25” tall and the 6.25” tall one has a developing crack), (1) 10.5" x 4.75" Serving Dish with lid with two chickens, (1) 8” x 5" kidney shaped Platter, (1) Bread Bowl that is 10” across and has a chip, (1) 6” tall Chicken with a carved in M.A. Hadley signature, (1) 4” tall Chicken with broken beak, (2) 6.5” hanging Wall Plates (one with a crack), and an assortment of (11) creamers, sugar bowls, bowls with a handle, as well as other small items.
The collection comes from different eras of Hadley pottery. For example, six of the large dinner plates are older than the others - and are a bit wider and have a slightly more abstract bird figure. The pieces are simple, yet quite utilitarian and, even, heavy – which has been ideal for any busy family.
Almost all items have the distinctive "M.A. Hadley” signature on the back. Some of the signatures are “carved in” but most of the others have the lyrical signature evidently typical of early M.A. Hadley work. And, to the delight of our grandchildren, the mugs, coffee cups, creamers and some of the other larger pieces have the delightful “The End” handwritten legend on the inside, at the bottom.
The collection, of course, shows wear that is typical of the age of this dinnerware. A small number (less than 15% of the 175 pieces) have cracks. More photos and a complete inventory list are available, upon request. Ideally, our grandmother's collection will be sold in total (e.g. not split up).
Used in our family Finger Lakes summer home for three generations, these dishes have been central to countless dinners and so many wonderful memories. We just hope to find a new family for these dishes will love them as much as we have.
