Large Size & Scale - Both Pieces - Mortar & Pestle are a Original Matching Set. Back in the Day These Types of Sets were a Necessity with Druggist & Chemists & Alchemist's. Both Pieces are Beautifully Hand Made - Lathe Turned out of a Solid Piece of Genuine Lignum Vitae - Sometimes Also Known as Ironwood. Lignum Vitae is Latin for "Wood of Life". The plant derives its name from its medicinal uses - It Resin has been used to Treat a Variety of Medical Conditions. Lignum vitae is Very Hard - Durable, and is also the Densest ( Heaviest ) Wood Traded, Note that This 2 Piece Set Weighs Just a Bit Under 6 Pounds!. Note also that Lignum Vitae Wood is Very Expensive in Today's Marketplace. Both Pieces are Red Hot Iron Branded with the Initials F.H.C.
