Around the mid-century era there was a lot of interest in the oriental culture, which resulted in many chinoiserie elements in home decor and furniture. This statue might have been in use as a lamp and could easily be turned back into one again if wanted.
This tall (25.8”) gilded statue of an Oriental man in a robe with flute was totally in line with this fascination with the Far East at that time. See less
