This really is a Great Looking Antique American Country Primitive Stoneware Jug. Circa Late 19th Century. Smaller Approx. 1 Gallon Size. The Surface is done in a Classic American Sand Color Salt Glaze. The Front is Hand Decorated with a Unusual Stylized Blue Wildflower Design. It is Signed - Embossed with the Well Documented Up State New York Makers Name "WHITES UTICA". These type of Jugs were Commonly Used to Store a Variety of Liquids - Spirits - Liquor - Ciders - Vinegar - Spring Water Etc. Back in the These Types of Crocks were Made for Utilitarian Purposes and were a Necessity in Most Homes and Farms. In addition These Stoneware Items were Completely Hand Made Making Them Each One of a Kind. It is in Excellent Overall Original Condition - Displays Beautifully. Note hat the Top Area - Spout & Handle are a Bit Crooked - This would Have Occurred in the Making. It also has a Few Small Chips at the Base Perimeter That are Mostly Glazed Over Indicating that They Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process as well. These Types of Stoneware Items were Fired in Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Time so Cosmetic Flaws are Quite Normal
It Measures Overall Approx 11 inches Tall x 8 inches Long - Wide.
