Vintage Lambert Hitchcock Mid-Century Stenciled One-Drawer Writing Desk or Console Table. While this piece is often described as a writing desk, note that in a 1955 brochure for Hitchcock Furniture (as found on the Henryford.org website) it is described as a "console table".
Hand Stenciled
Porcelain Knobs
There is a copy of the poem, "Choice of a Wife", by Lambert Hitchcock on the interior of the drawer. I've seen others with the same poem inside - obviously not an original copy.
Best known for chairs, per HenryFord.org, in the early 1800's "Lambert Hitchcock applied early mass-production techniques to turn out chairs by the thousands — uniform, durable, attractive, affordable and, for a time, wildly popular." Lambert died young & the business ended in the mid 1800's. In 1946 the Lambert Hitchcock furniture company started up again and produced furniture until early 2000's.
